Learn To Paint With ...
Learning to paint can be challenging, confusing, and overwhelming. Painting for beginners is not easy without the right guidance. It does not matter if you are a total beginner, or you have been trying to learn to paint for some time, we all face the same problems along the way.
The biggest challenge with learning to paint is that we overcomplicate it. Typically we have way too many colours on our palette, far too many brushes of every kind, multiple mediums we are not sure how to use, and worst of all no idea of the process to go from blank canvas to finished masterpiece. I know because I struggled with the same challenges as most of my students have.
So I developed the Moore Method of Painting which greatly simplifies the painting process down into just 3 steps to follow, starting with just 3 colours on the palette, and using only 3 brushes.
The results from 110,000 + students globally speak for themselves. If they can do it you can to!

Some common questions and answers below:
Yes, painting is a skill anyone can learn. With the right guidance and a structured approach, even complete beginners can create paintings they’re proud of. That’s why I developed the Moore Method of Painting a simple 3-step (and now expanded 5-step) process that takes the mystery out of painting. Thousands of students around the world, many who had never picked up a brush before, have proven to themselves that they can paint by following this method.
The Moore Method of Painting is designed to simplify the learning process. Instead of overwhelming beginners with complicated theory, it breaks painting down into easy steps. First, you learn how to design and draw a simple composition. Next, you block in the big shapes and colors. Finally, you refine with details and highlights. In the expanded version, we also cover color harmony and brush techniques. This method helps you build confidence quickly, so you stay motivated and keep painting.
No. Talent is often just the result of practice and good instruction. What really matters is developing your eye, learning techniques, and practicing consistently. With structured lessons and regular painting time, you’ll be amazed at how fast your skills grow. Many of my students started out thinking they “had no talent” and now proudly hang their paintings on their walls or sell them to others.
I recommend starting with either acrylics or water-mixable oils, because they are more forgiving and easier to clean up. Acrylics dry fast and allow for quick progress, while water-mixable oils give you more time to blend and achieve a traditional oil look without the mess of solvents. As you grow more confident, you can explore traditional oils or gouache for variety and different effects. The important thing is to start with a medium that makes the process enjoyable, not intimidating.
You don’t need an expensive setup to begin. A few brushes (a flat, a round, and a detail brush), a basic palette of paints, a palette knife, a canvas or board, and a palette for mixing are enough to get going. I provide supply lists in my courses so you can buy exactly what you need without wasting money on materials you’ll never use. Over time, you can expand your collection as you discover your style and preferences.
Our courses are designed to be step-by-step and beginner-friendly. Each lesson starts with a demonstration where I paint alongside you, explaining what I’m doing and why. You’ll see how I plan the composition, mix colors, and apply brushstrokes in real time. You can pause, rewind, and paint at your own pace. Many courses also include downloadable reference photos and supply lists, so you can easily follow along and build up your skills with each project.
In my courses you’ll learn how to paint a variety of popular subjects, landscapes, seascapes, still life, and even figurative work. For beginners, landscapes and seascapes are a great place to start because they allow for freedom and expression while teaching core skills like composition, perspective, and color mixing. As you progress, you can take on more complex projects and develop your own artistic style.
Everyone learns at a different pace, but with regular practice and structured lessons, most people start seeing real progress within a few weeks to a few months. The key is consistency, painting a little every week will compound your skills faster than doing one big session once in a while. Think of it like learning a musical instrument: small, steady practice sessions lead to mastery over time.
Every artist faces challenges and plateaus — it’s part of the creative journey. That’s why our courses are supported by a community of learners and resources to help you push through obstacles. I also share mindset tips for artists, because painting isn’t just about technique — it’s about confidence, perseverance, and enjoying the creative process. Remember, every “bad” painting is just a stepping stone to your next great one.
